Role overview  

The Senior Data Engineer role will be tasked with building the pipelines to improve access to the 9Spokes platform data, enabling internal stakeholders to extract trends and business insights. 

To succeed in this role, you will have the ability to understand requirements and have a future focus regarding engineering data solutions and building data structures which can be used for a variety of use cases. This is a Greenfields project allowing you to guide the vision for the data platform and the technologies it utilises. 

From a technical perspective, the datasets are all modern and fully running in the cloud. We require someone with a thorough understanding of the cloud, particularly Azure, and exceptional ETL skills. It is also highly desirable if you have experience with streaming datasets.  

Key Accountabilities  

The following covers the Senior Data Engineers’ ​​key accountabilities; however, this is not an exhaustive list, and the role will include additional responsibilities:  

• Design data engineering solutions for multiple use cases 

• Utilising IaC in your data engineering solutions 
• Gathering and integrating data from different sources 
• Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain data pipelines, ETL processes, databases, and other components of the data platform 
• Mentoring and coaching other team members 
• Developing and championing data engineering practices and standards 

• Contributing to the solution architecture and review of tools/patterns 
• Support of the data platform and business stakeholders 

Security responsibilities 

All 9Spokes staff have basic information security responsibilities that relate to the physical and virtual safety and security of 9Spokes-controlled information and must comply with the associated company policies and procedures.    

As a 9Spokes employee you will be required to:  

• follow the 9Spokes policies and procedures applicable to your job function;   
• understand information security, including how to handle information, reporting risks and/or breaches, and how to support colleagues to do the same.  

It is advantageous to demonstrate knowledge and enthusiasm across the following areas; 

• Excellent knowledge of ETL principals  

• Advanced & Strong analytical and evaluation skills to ensure the proper tooling and technologies are chosen 
• Experience in dealing with all types of unstructured and structured data. 
• An understanding of streaming datasets and being able to recommend where they could be utilised within the organisation 
• Experience with modern ETL workflow tools  
• Experience using IaC is useful 

• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, spoken and understanding) 
• A Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field is advantageous
