Comet Backup

Comet is New Zealand’s premier developer of backup software servicing the IT industry. Headquartered in Christchurch with a customer base that is 99% international, we are taking on the biggest and most well-resourced competitors in our niche with classic NZ ingenuity.

We serve customers in more than 120+ countries to ensure their business-critical data can always be securely backed up and restored. Comet is built on the strengths of our diverse team and is an equal opportunity employer.

The Role

This position is a full-time (40 hours per week) tech marketing role based in Christchurch. Perfect for a marketer with 1-5 years’ experience. You’ll be working with our Marketing Manager to produce all of Comet’s marketing content – email newsletters, webinars, social media, co-marketing opportunities, videos, online community engagement and moderation. The primary objective of this role is to deliver marketing initiatives to attract new sales leads and raise brand awareness. You will also ensure ongoing engagement with our existing users.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be a go-getter who is well organised and takes initiative. You will have the creative freedom to plan the content schedule and execute on your ideas. You’ll have a knack for quickly understanding technical audiences and how to best engage with them, and you’ll be bursting with enthusiasm to learn and generate content.

As well as being good at creating a plan, you’ll need to be a doer who can see tasks through to completion – generating lots of types of content in-house for campaigns and one-off initiatives. If you have technical writing, graphic design (Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, PowerPoint), and/or video production skills, please let us know in your cover letter as these would be a major plus to enter the role!

Comet is not an island – we work closely with other organisations, including our integration partners, channel vendors and IT groups. Part of your role will be liaising with marketers at other international tech companies to ensure coordination with their marketing teams to plan, create, and execute collaborative marketing initiatives.

We’re all about outcomes, so this role encompasses understanding and reporting on the effectiveness of all the content marketing activity you create and execute so we can ensure desired outcomes are reached, and all feedback/data generated can inform future marketing decisions.

There is plenty of independence and opportunity to make this role your own, and work alongside a highly motivated team. You’ll work closely with the entire team who will contribute to your success in the role, however, you’ll have the luxury of end-to-end responsibility of the content marketing landscape within Comet.

Who You Are

We ask that you come with a collaborative spirit and bring your best. That you’ll seek ways to improve the business: to question and challenge, to get involved and have a voice. Comet team members equally celebrate their wins and own up to their failures, with a focus on always improving. You’ll work with the entire team to ensure that the brand continues to be known for setting the standard for backup software worldwide.

What you'll need to be successful

Content marketing experience, preferably for a software or Software as a Service (SaaS) company with global reach. Marketing experience in an IT or tech environment would be equally relevant.

Specifically:

  • Creating content (written, images and video) that engages and resonates with a technical audience
  • Creating and launching marketing campaigns to drive strategic initiatives
  • Excellent time management, planning, and organisational skills
  • Awesome interpersonal skills, understanding what it means to be a team player
  • You’ll enjoy the opportunity of working autonomously, being self-directed & motivated and show initiative when taking ownership and making decisions
  • A creative approach to your work, with an analytical streak to your mindset
  • Experience with design programs (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and/or video editing software would be a plus
  • You get stuff done, and done well
