Software Engineer

  • Full Time Job
  • Hybrid

We are looking for a front-end engineer at a fast growing proc-tech start-up. And we are ready to go big. As an early software engineer at Cotiss, you will have a significant impact on the overall success of the team, helping us develop a best-in-class SaaS tool to revolutionise a market that desperately needs it.

Who are we?

We’re Cotiss. There’s a good chance you’ve not heard of us yet – we’re just getting going. We're using innovative software to make procurement more accessible for every business.

So, what does that mean? We’re using web technologies to help businesses of all kinds maximise their procurement productivity. And we’re getting ready to go big! Our future is exciting. We’ll be one of the best companies to work for; empowering our clients to do what they love; we’ll be the market leader in our areas of expertise. And we’ve only just started.

Why work for us?

We are a New Zealand based company with customers across Australia and New Zealand. We’re going from strength to strength and offer excellent benefits including flexible (and remote) working arrangements, team lunches, health insurance and the opportunity for our employees to own a part of the business as it grows!

About this role

We are looking for ambitious developers that are passionate about finding elegant solutions to complex problems.

We are untangling the complexities of the procurement industry as a nimble, cross-functional product team. To do this we aim for everyone to be familiar with all parts of the system.

You’ll be joining a team of creative and intellectually curious engineers. We are eager to learn any technology and skill required to get the job done and encourage all engineers to share their knowledge with the rest of the team.

As an early software engineer at Cotiss, you will have a significant impact on the overall success of the team and be involved in the entire lifecycle of the product, helping us create a best-in-class SaaS tool to revolutionise a market that desperately needs it.

Our tech stack

We are always striving to use the best available tools for the job and currently among other tools, these work great for us:

  • Prototyping and design using Figma
  • NextJS
  • TailwindCSS
  • Storybook
  • ReactQuery
  • Typescript

What we're looking for

Most important, we're looking for people that are curious, ambitious and love to learn new things, so if for any reason you don't fit our requirements but are passionate about our vision, don't hesitate to apply!

Qualities we're looking for:

  • Strong analytical thinking: Able to distil complex tasks into an elegant solution
  • Effective communicator: Able to share novel or complicated concepts with the team in a digestible way, and able to “translate” technical developments into their relevant business implications
  • Focused on impact, not output: Willing to flex across technologies and beyond this job description to solve the task at hand; ready to get your hands dirty!
  • Ambitious curiosity: Eager to learn skills and technologies outside of your comfort zone, take on tasks that scare you, and grow into a senior leadership role at Cotiss
  • Dependability & detail-oriented: Trusted to deliver on the commitments you make to the team, from the big picture results to the nuanced details

Some skills we're looking for:

  • A proven history of building front-end web apps from concept to delivery
  • A passion for working with tools such as TypeScript, React, CSS and HTML
  • Experience with developing web UIs with React (Vue, Svelte or similar)
  • Experience with applications running in the cloud and using modern DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines and Git workflow

What you will learn

We believe that individual learning and progression is extremely important. Here are some of the things you will learn as you go:

  • Building cloud-based applications
  • Software architecture
  • Data science & engineering
  • Mentoring as the team grows

And more!

Career Progression

Working at Cotiss will provide many opportunities to grow. As an early employee you can "choose your own adventure". Some possible paths are:

  • Specialist with in-depth knowledge of crucial parts of our product
  • Ownership of our front-end stack
  • Team leader building and mentoring a world-class team of engineers
